Maybe shambles is a harsh word, but that's how I feel. While I was away at a super fabulous Build-A-Bear birthday party for Scarlett (Andrea's), Chuckie was at home working tirelessly on the beginning stages of moving our website. When we arrived back home he starts walking up the stairs, my laptop in his hands and open. Lo and behold there was a toy on our steps (shock and surprise there). Well, when his foot met the toy and he slipped he chose to save his own balance. Meanwhile my entire life (slight exaggeration here) fell from his hands and tumbled back down the stairs....AAAAAAKKKKKKK!!!!! He ran back down the stairs with me close behind. Sadly, laying at the bottom was my laptop. The screen was shattered, buttons popped off and well, it was dead. Crap!! I immediately started crying. Not so much for the laptop, but every single picture of my kids that has been taken for the last 2 1/2 years was on it!! All of them!!
Thankfully the hard drive is fine and Chuck was able to pull that out and retrieve everything! I say thankfully because well, he's an awesome computer guy like that!! Sadly, for the time being I have to go ALL THE WAY downstairs to use a computer. In the man cave. Where it's cold, usually dark and smells like a giant fart mixed with men's deodorant and sweat. Lovely aroma let me tell ya.
The best part of it all....I get a new laptop!! Woohoo!! We already have it picked out and Chuckie is just waiting for it to come in so he can reload all of my schedules, addresses, planners and all the other important things that make this Mom happy (you know, like Facebook, TweetDeck...the truly important stuff...haha).
Moral of the story: Don't walk upstairs with your laptop open. Kids toys are dangerous things!
Best part of the story: new laptop..woot!!

The Best Christmas present!
posted by Kandi
This event actually took place last week, but due to the holidays I scheduled it ahead of time. Enjoy!
Well, it happened. This is the first year Audrey is in school and she brought home a present for me and Chuck. Now, I was expecting a drawing or something similar. Something cute to tuck away and save for, well, ever. Something that all the kids did and would say "hey Mommy or Daddy, here". I never would have thought of something like what I received.
Audrey loves to give gifts. It's in her nature. So, when she came running out of her class today and handed me a gift I was surprised! Then, with her hand on her hip, she informs me that I had to wait until "Daddy" got home to open it "cause it's for bof of you". Okay, I *guess* I can wait, if I have to. Talk about a LONG wait. I completely forgot Chuck had a haircut and dentist appointment tonight. My anticipation of opening my first "real" kid present (meaning not bought by Chuck for me) was overwhelming. I was practically pacing by the time he got home.
He did his normal hugs/kisses and asking everyone about their day. I was about to go nuts..seriously. He knew I was waiting to open the gift, so he made me wait longer. Just to be a turkey!!
Let me say though, the wait was worth it! When we opened the card I got misty eyed.
When we tore open the gift (quite like small children ourselves) I got very teary very quickly. It was Audrey's hand print. She had made it, painted it and put a penny with the year 2009 on it!
On the back was a poem that I have read before.
This one had a holiday twist to it. I bawled like a baby!! Really. Chuck started, well, chuckling I was so teary.
It was the best Christmas present I have ever received! I plan on hanging it in a prominent place with some room so that the other two can add theirs to it someday.

When did being in love...
posted by Kandi
This is a question I've been pondering lately. When did being "in love" with your spouse become a "bad" thing? I mean, I love Chuck, but I also love my sister. It's not the same love though. Yes, I realize that this topic has been covered many times. I still wonder.

Here's why I wonder about this. I have friends who say they love their husbands. I'm not one to question that, but I wonder. Chuck and I have had our share of ups and downs, trials and triumphs. I think every marriage does. The thing is, I am still madly, deeply, school-girl giddy in love with him! I look at him sometimes and just giggle.
Why? I honestly don't know. I could venture to guess, but why? The point is, to me loving someone means one thing. Being "in love" means something different. I guess after almost 11 years together that being in love with my husband isn't a bad thing! It makes me really happy actually!!
Since I'm not a person who thinks too in depth about these issues I just wanted to know if anyone else ever wondered about it? Yes, these thoughts actually do pop into my mind....

Drama, drama everywhere....
posted by Kandi
Have you ever had one of those mornings? You know the ones, you wake up late, can't get going and then nothing goes right. Yeah, I'm having one of those RIGHT NOW!! Let's just say I woke up about an hour later than usual. That gave me exactly 1/2 hour to wake up Audrey and get her to school. Talk about time constraints. Well, I quietly go into her room, trying not to wake up the baby in the process. I gently rub her back and say "Audrey, time for school, wake up". She jumps out of bed unhappily. She then walks into the center of her room, throws her arms out to the side and professes LOUDLY "but Mommy, I just wanted to sleep a little bit longer, geez". Okay, when did my 4 year old become 15?? I'm prepared for a lot, or at least I try to tell myself that. THAT was not one of those things I prepared for. If she's this drama now the teenage years are going to be a real loo-loo.

Now add to this Courtney who suddenly despises getting dressed or getting her diaper changed. That's a struggle I look forward to each morning, let me tell ya. Ren has been complaining the lights are too bright all morning and Chuck, well, he was less than happy to be running late for work.
Right now, I would really like to just crawl back into bed, pull up the covers and hide my head. Maybe if I do that the day will start over again. And since we know that isn't going to happen I'll just settle with popping in a Dora DVD for the kids and putting another post on this site so that you all can share in the joy of my morning. I'm hoping for a great rest of the day, but with 3 kids and a hubby who has obviously contracted PMS today I'm unsure of the outcome.

The Binky Fairy
posted by Kandi
Have you ever heard of the Binky Fairy? She is a wonderful fairy who takes little boys and girls binkies and recycles them for the new babies in the hospital. Or, at least, that's what we told Ren yesterday. Chuck and I were flipping channels the other night and came across a re-run of the Supernanny. On this particular episode the parents were having binky issues, just like we were. Well, Jo had this idea of the Binky Fairy and we thought it was a wonderful idea. We just had to wait for a good time to try it.
That time happened yesterday. Chuck and Ren were snuggling and Chuck mentioned the Binky Fairy to see what he thought. Ren bought it!!!!! He got so excited. So, we got out an envelope and put the binky inside. He (with Chuck's help) wrote To Binky Fairy, Love Ren on it and they put it in the mailbox. The story says that the Binky Fairy flies around at night (like Santa does) and checks mailboxes for boys and girls binkies. If she finds one she leaves that boy or girl a present to show them how excited she is that they have become a "big boy" or "big girl".

To help make this believable, I found some old sequins in my craft room. Chuck and I put 3 brand new Hot Wheels packages into a big envelope that we had written on and decorated it. We then took out the binky envelope and replaced it with the decorated one. To make the effect special we put some sequins in the envelope, on top of the mailbox and all around our front door and down our walkway. We also put streamers on the mailbox.
The morning when Ren woke up, he went flying for the door. He ran outside (and it was COLD mind you) and straight to the mailbox. Chuck lifted him up and he got out the present from the Binky Fairy. To say he was excited is a slight understatement. He ran right into the kitchen and dumped the contents on the table. Opened the cars and squealed with glee.

I won't say he hasn't missed his binky today, quite the opposite. He spent a good portion of his playdate telling his cousin about the Binky Fairy and how much he loved his binky. He also decided to today that since he's now an "official big boy" he no longer takes naps either...YIKES!! We may have to chat about the nap thing, but tonight in my thankful prayers I will say an extra "thank you" to Jo from the Supernanny for her Fairy idea!

Our Date Night
posted by Kandi
This weekend Chuck and I, along with some close friends, had the opportunity for a "date night". These are few and far between for us, so we, (well I), literally jumped up and down at the chance for some adult time.
For those of you who may be familiar with the Dayton, Ohio area, we went to the Historic Oregon District. Personally, I haven't been there since I was in my early 20's and having a good time (subtitled...living it up and usually drinking). Going back now, I realized that it is a beautiful area filled with old buildings and unique dining establishments. We went to one of those establishments called Pacchia. It was an awesome place. So full of ambiance. Frankly, it kind of reminded me of one of those upscale restaurants you see in old movies. I know, I know, everything old is new again...I get it.
Anyway, we got there a little after 9 and went right in to eat. They have a wonderful Espresso bar, but an outstanding restaurant area too! All four of us that went had already *technically* had dinner, but hey, this was an event, so we ordered something light. I had the fried portobello mushrooms with banana ketchup (yes, you read that correctly) and Chuck had what was called the Pacchia burger with a small salad. I guess he was hungry again?!?! The food was FANTABULOUS! I just combined two words to get the point across, but it was wonderful!! They had a great dessert menu as well. We had the chocolate marble cheesecake and our friends had a chocolate espresso cake with chocolate ganache....TO DIE FOR GOOD!!!! I mean it. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of gal, but OMG!!! the food was so good I could LIVE there, literally.
Now, to add a little more ambiance to the atmosphere, they had some live music. This is the real reason why we went. Chuck was in school with a very talented guy named Bobby Streng. He has moved away from the Dayton area, but was here for one night to play. He and his band were wonderful! They play a lively mix of jazz and funk, mixed in with a little rock and classical influences. Holy Pickles he is good!! No wonder Chuck NEVER made first chair in band class...haha. The band played 2 sets before we left and wow. That's really all I can say is wow. Below is a picture of Bobby (courtesy of his myspace site).

I honestly hope that Bobby comes back to town soon. I truly had a wonderful evening with Chuck and our friends. Plus, it's super cute to see my stuffy old hubby lighten up every once in a while. He even had his shirt untucked people (shock of the year!!).

First Day of School.

Well, my little girl is growing up. Am I happy about it...no way. I can't stop it as much as I may try. She started preschool bright and early this morning. Chuckie and I took her to school and walked her in. She looked so big! She took off her backpack and hung it in her cubby like she'd been there dozens of times. When she went in she politely said hello to the teachers and made her way over to the other kids.
We had decided earlier that we weren't going to hang around very long with the goodbye part of the morning, so Chuck told her bye and that he would see her after work. She ran up and gave him a big hug and kiss and said "I love you Daddy". He ask her to be good and she said "no problem, Mommy will be here"...uh oh. I quickly explained that I needed to go home and take care of her brother and sister and would be back later. She started to get a little watery in the eyes, but I **very rapidly** kissed her, told her goodbye and left. Once outside it hit me...my baby was a big girl and was beginning her educational career! Chuck saw the tears and hugged me then laughed and got into his car...men! They just don't get it do they? I walked back to the van and got in just in time to see another mother going in with her little guy. She was bawling her eyes out already! I didn't feel so bad for my couple of tears and took off for home.
Honestly thinking about how the morning went the worst part was just getting out the door! Ren cried so hard! He wanted to go to school too but isn't quite big enough (read potty trained) to go. Once he is he will be going to Tuesday School.
Otherwise, the morning went as I had hoped! Here's to more of the same the rest of this week!
The picture below is what Audrey did at school today. She made a puppet of herself. This week and next the kids will be learning about how God made them each individuals and special. Today Audrey learned that God gave her beautiful brown eyes like her Mommy's, or so she told the teacher. In truth, I have been telling her that since she was tiny and she just repeated it to the teacher....yup, that's my girl!

Our 7th Anniversary
posted by Kandi
I wanted to take a minute to thank Andrea for the anniversary wishes! We had a very nice day (with a little help from Chuck's bff Ethan). It was Ethan who ask Chuck if he had taken the day off of work. Chuckie said, no and Ethan hinted that maybe it would be a nice thing to do. He was correct! Chuck and I did lots of things on Monday. We fixed the basement door, I slept in!, and we generally just hung out and had fun with the kiddies. Monday evening, my Mom came over to watch the kiddies and we headed out. Let me share a little secret....go out during the week!! Really, there are no lines, no waits and the servers aren't rushed!! We went to The Cheesecake Factory. YUMMY! That is the only word I have to describe it! Having never eaten there, I didn't know what to expect. The food was fabulous!! If you like something a little spicey (very little) with some crunch, the Louisiana Chicken dish is great!! Chuckie had the Chicken Belassio (I know I just spelled that terribly wrong, sorry). It was wonderful as well. The whole dish was green, literally. The pasta and salad made the whole dish look green, so if you aren't into that color, I wouldn't get it. We finished our meal with some cheesecake. I mean, it was The Cheesecake Factory how could we not, right? Chuckie got the Tiramisu cheesecake and I got the Pecan Chocolate Carmel one. I think it was the pecan chocolate, but I'm a little unsure after the 90 proof whiskey sour I had with dinner....let's just say my cheesecake had pecans in it and leave it at that okay? It was wonderful!! I ate the leftovers for lunch yesterday and yes, I know cheesecake isn't necessarily a "healthy meal"(huge eye roll here).
Afterward we walked around a bit. We went to what's known around here as The Greene. It's kind of an outdoor mall plus. We wound up and Books & Co. just sitting down and looking through some home remodeling and painting books. Yes people, we are thrilling aren't we...haha! For us, just being out together and getting some much needed alone time was worth it!!
Okay, so enough of our "super" romantic night. We really had a great time just laughing, talking and pretending for a few hours we weren't Mommy and Daddy. A huge Thank You to my Mom for watching the kids while I'm at it!!
I thought I'd share a few pictures of us. I will also link our wedding song.
Cutting the cake. I LOVED my dress!!!

My soccer girl.
posted by Kandi

Well, it's official. Audrey is all signed up and equipped for her big soccer practice debut next week (I'm sure there will be a post about it!). We went Wednesday and purchased all her stuff. The trip included a new ball, shin guards, cleats, and socks. Most of the stuff has pink on it somewhere, with exception to the socks which are white. The soccer ball is another matter all together! She was sooo angry when they didn't have any pink balls. Seriously. She looked at me and said, "well, if purple is all they have I guess that will do for now". She's 4 people!!!!!!!
Even though Audrey and Chuck have been playing around with a soccer ball for several years, she is just now at the age that she can join a "real team" (her words). She is so excited! Me, on the other hand, well, I'm LOST!!! I don't know the first thing about soccer, really. Football, baseball, basketball and even hockey I know enough to understand. Soccer...nothing. I feel like I'm going to take her to practice just to stand there and look like an idiot. I don't even know when to cheer. All I can say is thank goodness there are good workers at the local sporting goods store too! So, I guess I'm going to have to take some Soccer 101 classes or something and fast!
Now, I'll get back to the reason for the blog. While I was the one who took her shopping for all her stuff, I had NO IDEA how to put everything together. I had a vague suspicion at best, but made her wait until Chuck got home to really try it all. While he was showing her how to put things on I kept catching the faintest hint of a proud dad smile on his mouth. Chuck's not the one to show his emotions (what man really does right?), but it was so sweet that I snapped some pictures of it.

This weekend...
posted by Kandi
I'm going to start this blog with a disclaimer. I am going to share parts of what happened and some of it is not very nice to say. This is something that is happening in my hubby's family and it has affected our family so much that we/he felt something had to be done.
Here is the story. My father in law is cheating on my mother in law. It has been going on for about 3 years and MIL finally got tired of dealing with it. This week FIL is on vaction with his mistress. We know where he went and Chuck wanted to go and confront his dad. A brave thing to do in my book. Here is how it went down....
We drove about 4 or so hours to the lake resort and luckily I have an relative that lives nearby. We got there about 8 in the evening and drove to the resort to verify that his dad was there...he was. Then we went back to my relatives house to stay overnight. We got up bright and early to head back over to the resort.
We sat in our van for about 3 hours doing survelience. We took our video camera and digital camera to make sure what we thought was happening truly was. I was very nervous and Chuck was sick to his stomach he was so scared. When we first got there, no one was awake, so we chose an out of the way spot to park the van and still be inconspicuous. About 30 minutes into our wait, the curtains opened and out walked his dad followed by the other woman. We knew it was her because we have seen pictures of her and scoped out her profile on Facebook. Gotta love Facebook!! Anyway, after watching what was going on for about 2 hours or so, Chuck finally worked up a huge amount of courage and walked up to his dad. The scene played out like this:
Dad: "what are you doing here?"
Chuck: "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Then, Chuck turned to the other woman, stuck out his hand and said "hi, I'm Chuck, this is my married father...who the hell are you?". At this point the woman ran into the cabin and shut herself into the bedroom and locked the door.
Chuck's dad proceeded to sit down and Chuck got out the piece of paper he had typed up before we left with a list of questions on it that he wanted answered. He went through them one by one and his father played a lot of blame games, never really answering anything to Chuck's satisfaction. Finally after about 3 hours of talking, yelling, crying and trying to get the answers he wanted, Chuck gave up. His dad then ask if he wanted to meet the other woman. Personally, here is where I would have inserted some rather foul remarks and told him to f___ off, but Chuck said sure. I honestly have no idea why and still don't. We met the woman, but I honestly didn't even look at her. I don't think Chuck really did either. His dad then ask if we wanted to stay and go out onto the lake with them...seriously dude? Are you freaking kidding. Luckily, it was about then Chuck came to his senses and said "no, we have to get back to the kids." Can I get a huge old Thank God for small favors inserted here please, thank you!!
Several things continue to stick out in my mind even now that we are back at home and attempting to get things back to normal.
First, his dad NEVER answered why or told us his side of the story, although he kept telling us we only knew one side. This was his spportunity to give us both sides and he ignored it, so guess what? All we have is what MIL told us so we'll take that as truth from now on.
Second, he kept repeating how he has ask for a divorce, but can't afford it. Well, if you can't afford things why in the h e double hockey sticks are you on a vacation with your mistress????? Yeah, money problems, gotcha. When Chuck and I both ask him about it he quickly changed the subject...how convienent.
Third, this man (my fil) honestly thinks his wife should just up and leave and forget she was ever married. Really, he said, "well, I've ask her to leave and she won't". Yeah, here's the issue with that one. My mil has never had to work, she raised her kids and now dotes on her grandkids. She has worked maybe a total of 5 years out of a 38 year marriage and he doesn't think she deserves anything...really? There are laws set into place for such arrogance. Chuck repeatedly mentioned this to his dad, even at one point saying, "well, there are laws for issues like this and frankly dad, they aren't going to be in your favor". While that was just a guess, I would think they aren't in his favor either.
So, we came home. Chuck's mom was at our house watching the kids for us while we did this. Unknown to fil is that mil has already seen a lawyer and knows what she is entitled to. According to the lawyer, that's half of everything...house, cars, boat, 401k, pension, retirement, IRA's...everything. In our state, once you have been married for a long length of time (35 years), you are entitled to half of all the assets. Apparently, fil thinks this is BS and wants to keep everything for himself.....
Lastly, the one BIG thing that keeps sticking out of this whole situation goes back to something Chuck and his dad talked about. When ask why he was cheating the answer was "because I havne't been happy for 10 to 12 years". Chuck's reply to that was...."well, Kandi and I has a really rough patch after the baby was born a couple of years ago and almost seperated. Even though we have since worked things out, I NEVER EVER thought of going out and finding another woman, no matter how unhappy I was".....that people, is why I love him more each day!
So, for the time being, his father is not allowed around our kids or in our home. This is just a decision we made. His dad can be really rude and a little hostile at times and we don't our kids thinking people should be able to talk to others like that.....
I hope everyone had a better weekend than we did. While the actual weekend was extremely stressful, today we feel like a huge cloud of stress that had surrounded our home is dissipating and floating away. Again, Thank God for small favors. We couldn't have done it without help from Him!!

Chuck love Barbie
posted by Kandi
I think my hubby, Chuck, has a problem. It's of the toy variety.
Here's a little back story. Chuck has a brother, no sisters. Girls are more of a foreign language to him then men who may have had sisters. Well, we have 2 girls. Both of them are quite little girly girls at that. Our youngest, who's 19 months, has just discovered her sister's Barbie dolls. There's the back story.
Onto today. We had just eaten dinner and cleaned up the kids. It was family time and we were all reading books. Each kid got to choose 1 book for us to read to the whole group. Well, CS brought her new favorite toy with her. This is a blonde haired, bikini clad, loads of eye makeup and lipstick Barbie doll. You know the type. She hands the doll to Chuck while I was reading one of the books. I glanced up while turning the page to see my husband checking underneath the Barbie's clothes. Like pseudo feeling her up. I just rolled my eyes and continued on. After story time ended, the kids went to put their books away. It was at the moment that all the kids had exited the room that he looks at me and says "Oh my gosh, Barbie is a hottie" I gave him a look like he had 3 heads. "really? I just thought she was a doll". He said, "yes, but she is one little hot doll". I'm about ready to barf. I mean, has he never looked at a Barbie before. Come on....
I ask him about the feeling Barbie up thing. His response was "I wanted to see what was under there" Okay, it's a plastic doll with little plastic mounds. What did he expect? Silicone??
I can't wait until the girls move onto the next girly phase. Maybe I'll find out Chuck has a secret obsession for make-up or something too....

Tales of a overly worried Dad!
posted by Kandi
Yes, my hubby is already overprotective of our daughter(s)(A and CS), especially the oldest. She went camping this weekend with her grandparents. They have a camper that is parked at a campground year round. This was the first **official** kids can come and stay weekend and they invited her. My daughter thinks she is sooo special while she's there. See, they have a sandbox and no one else does making her the most popular little kid in the whole campground, really. This weekend though, not a lot of kids were around. The exception being a little guy name Joey. He is 6 (A is 4)but they began playing together last summer and are pretty good little playmates. A is kind of tall for her age and Joey is kind of short for his, so they balance each other, plus A has this **small** gas issue and Joey thinks it's hilarious that she farts (it's the little things I tell ya!).
Well, A comes home from the visit and Chuck starts asking questions about what she did. She said "oh, I played in the sandbox with Joey Daddy". That was all it took. Here is the conversation:
Chuck- How old is this Joey?
A- he's 6
Chuck- If he's 6 why was he playing with you?
A-Cause he's my friend Daddy
Chuck-Okay, but he can only be a friend got it?
A- umm, okay Daddy, whatever
Yes, that was the actual conversation. Let me remind you that A is only 4!!!! He's acting like she's 16! If it's this bad now, watch out boys.....Daddy's asking questions.
